Founding and early years: The history of Penti began in 1950 with two separate companies founded by Mois and Yasef Kariyo. The company, which initially produced women's socks popular among teachers in Turkey, changed its name to Öğretmen Çorap in 1970. The company's first production facility was established in Bayrampaşa, Istanbul in 1971.
Brand evolution: In the 1980s, Sami Carrillo, a second-generation family member, took over and expanded the brand's focus to include color, pattern, variety, and quality for urban women. In 1984, the brand adopted the name Penti, marking the final stage of its branding process.
Growth and innovation: Penti revolutionized the market in 1991 with the introduction of the “Fit15” tights, using Lycra for the first time in thin women’s socks. The brand expanded its product range in 1994 to include children’s socks, men’s socks, homewear and swimwear. A new modern production facility in Çorlu was opened to meet the growing demand.
Retail expansion: Penti opened its first store in Istanbul in 1999 and has since become a leading brand with over 300 stores in Turkey and 106 stores in 29 countries worldwide. Penti is recognized as one of the top 3 manufacturers in Europe, also producing for many global brands.
Online presence: In 2007, Penti launched its e-commerce store, penti.com, expanding its digital presence and increasing its social media engagement.
International recognition and achievements: Penti's success has been recognized through numerous awards, including the TURQUALITY certificate in 2014. In 2012, the company attracted international investors through a partnership with the Carlyle Group, solidifying its goal of becoming a global Turkish brand.
Commitment to innovation: Penti continues to innovate with its management systems and digitalization processes, receiving awards for marketing, technology use and e-commerce growth. The company aims to maintain its leadership in hosiery, lingerie and swimwear, while becoming a “love brand” for women internationally.
